ABOUT
Ditto is a design studio creating pieces that reflect fragments of the complex social and environmental ecologies surrounding us. The works serve as reminders of the growing distance between ourselves and the ecological systems that form and sustain us.
Born from a lifetime of immersion in ecology, ditto has become an outlet to explore and express the ecological systems, organisms, and patterns that most captivate me.
The shifting biomorphic animation displayed across these pages, titled Protazoan movements, reflects the complex interactive nature of ecological systems and their mercurial assemblages. Created in collaboration with Leonardo Solaas, it serves as a living logo that continuously transforms as the original organisms interact with each other. I've included Leonardo's words on the project below.
Protozoan movements is about bringing life into graphic design: instead of some static forms and colors, it sets in motion a dynamic system that evolves constantly and never repeats itself. It’s a small algorithmic world populated by a group of simulated cells that grow, shrink, and interact with one another in ever changing configurations. This emergent behavior is driven by a simple physical system of attraction and repulsion forces that seek a state of equilibrium but is continually disturbed by the cells changing their size. Like a living being, this logo flows with time: it stays the same, and yet it is always different. ~ Leonardo Solaas
